A very personal build for the shop: a 1988 Carrera backdated in the spirit of the lightweight Carrera RS, named after its M471 option code. The goals were simple to write and hard to hit: street use, 100 hp per litre, and under 2,400 lb.
The donor engine was worn out, so it came out and was torn down straight away. The new 3.5 litre high-compression engine has twin-plug heads reworked by Blackbird Technical Service, bespoke valves and retainers made in the UK for the project, a heavily revised oiling system and 964 cylinder air guides. Individual throttle bodies under a GT3-style plenum, a Motec M130 with active knock control and a TTE exhaust tuned to the intake complete the package, while round one of weight reduction removed about 200 lb.
