Porsche Oil Changes: Why the Approval Code Matters

What goes into a proper Porsche oil change: the right approval code, the factory interval for your car, and what else gets checked at our Calgary shop.

The short answer

A proper Porsche oil change uses oil that carries the factory approval for your engine, a quality filter, and the interval set for your model by time and mileage. The approval code on the jug matters more than the brand, and the visit is also the chance to catch small problems early.

01

Approvals, not brands

European manufacturers test and approve specific oils for their engines. Porsche, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen each publish their own approval codes.

Two oils with the same viscosity on the label can behave very differently. The approval is what tells you an oil was tested for your engine.

That is why we use factory-approved oil to your manufacturer’s exact specification, not a shelf equivalent.

Time matters as much as mileage

Oil ages even when the car sits. Short trips and cold starts are harder on it than highway miles, and Calgary has plenty of both.

Factory intervals are set by time and by mileage. A weekend car that covers little distance still needs its oil changed on schedule.

Our scheduled factory maintenance starts by pulling your schedule by VIN.

Air-cooled and water-cooled

An air-cooled 911 and a modern water-cooled car do not want the same oil. Their engines run at different temperatures and were designed decades apart.

We look after both, from classic 911s, the 930 Turbo, 964 and 993 through to current 911, Boxster, Cayman, Cayenne, Macan and Panamera models.

Questions owners ask

Which oil does my Porsche need?

The one that carries the approval your engine calls for. We use factory-approved oil to your manufacturer’s exact specification, not a shelf equivalent.

How often should the oil be changed?

On the factory interval for your model, by time as well as by mileage. We pull your factory schedule by VIN, so you get what the car needs.

Will an oil change here affect my warranty?

No. In Canada you have the right to have scheduled maintenance performed by any licensed shop. What matters is that the work follows the factory schedule with approved parts and is properly documented.

Do you reset the service indicator?

Yes. Service indicators are reset, and every visit is documented for your records and resale.

Do you only change oil on Porsches?

No. We service all makes. European and performance vehicles are our specialty.
