A customer wanted a car for a new club racing class at Area 27. After talking through classing and platforms, a clean, low-mileage Boxster S became the base, and the goal was reliable power within the class rules.
The engine came straight out for maintenance and gained a Mantis Racing deep sump, long-tube headers, 911 Carrera intake manifolds squeezed into the Boxster chassis and a 987 airbox. We retrofitted electro-hydraulic power steering and BMW M3 ABS, and later overhauled the transmission with treated gears, a limited-slip differential and new ratios. The roll cage was fabricated elsewhere. The car went on to multiple wins, including the 2023 championship, and the class rules were changed several times to slow it down.
